When I was on a recent shopping trip, I decided to purchase MAC’s paintpot in Bare Study. Why? Out of pure curiosity… and hype. Bare Study has been getting a lot of attention on YouTube, and I figured I should pick it up to see if it was really worth the hype. So after investing a painful $16.50 for a 5 gram jar, I tried it… and here are my thoughts:
Pros-
*The color is absolutely beautiful– when first applied, it appears to be a nice champage-y color. But when seen in the sunlight, Bare Study changes to this wonderful pinky-beige color with an iridescent gold sheen. Although this color is quite tricky to see, the paintpot helps draw attention to your eyes.
*Bare Study is a wonderful undertone for shadows– if you want to pull the pinker, warmer shades out of different eyeshadow colors, Bare Study is the way to go. The way it helps accent colors is unlike anything else I have in my collection.
*If you look in the mirror hours after applying Bare Study, I guarantee you your eyeshadow will look like you just applied it. Bare Study paintpot helps your eyeshadows stay on all day.
Cons-
*Just like all the other paintpots, Bare Study creases immediately once I apply it to my lid. I think it’s because of its creaminess, but Bare Study is impossible to wear on the lid as a wash shadow.
*However, if you wear it on your lid bare, at the end of the day, you will have a different color than when you first applied it in the morning. In the morning, it comes off as a champagne color, but by the end of the day, Bare Study is a very, very faint cream-colored sheen with a few gold sparkles. It’s personal preference, but for me, it was disappointing to see the beautiful color fade throughout the day.
*Again this is based on personal preference, but Bare Study’s price really depends on your financial status. Some may say that paying $16.50 for a 5 gram jar is just fine and is worth it, but for me, a full-time student, the price of a paintpot is a little steep. Heck, all of MAC’s prices are steep. But, either way, I know personally that I will not buy anymore paintpots simply on a whim– I’m going to really think about my decision, and really take in account all of the other things I want to buy instead.
All in all, I think MAC’s paintpot in Bare Study is a beautiful base and color, but is personally a little too high for me to live off of for the next twenty years. Although I really enjoy its uniqueness in my collection, I will always be on the search for a close dupe. I give this product an 8/10 overall because of its unique color, how it makes my eyeshadow pop, and how it makes my eyeshadow stay all day.
